Thanks to some lucky ebaying, the laptop is fixed for only $200. (Well, almost fixed. I’m running with no fans at the moment but should be back up to one tomorrow. The other may not return since the connector pulled off the logic board, and soldering it makes me fear the whole thing will catch on fire.)
Consequently, I no longer feel so much like my arm is broken.
My favorite photographs (of my own) are the ones I don’t edit. In the little break before classes start, I’ve been working on the never-ending project of editing, tagging, and rating photos in Aperture (I’ve done 2001–2004), and I’ve spent too much time trying to fix bad shots because I cared about the moment or the subject. These ones were good enough as they were. They’re just some sea-life, but they’re from a nice day out with someone special.
I’m back on the east coast now—to my relief—but the California pictures will be trickling out here for a while, I’m sure.
I enjoy that with my current research project, “running a study” (as I did today) means getting ten people together to play Team Fortress 2. In many ways, an excellent summer.
On the street, somewhere in San Francisco. Photos from the warring states of NoCal and SoCal should continue to trickle onto here, non-chronologically, for a while. (While in the North, I verified the continued existence of eyeoftomoe and iamyourgoldfish, but I failed to document the find. Tsk.)
